It’s April 15th which means one thing: PS3 firmware 2.30 is due. Right on cue, Sony made good on the new PlayStation Store and DTS-HD Master Audio sound reproduction sure to make audiophile-types lean in for a listen. The Store is acting a bit sluggish at the moment, something that’s likely to get sorted once the rolling update is completed. Nevertheless, users are claiming easier navigation and richer experience. So whatcha looking at — get out of here kid, there’s on-line updating to be done.

Users are currently reporting that images in the store are not loading, this is due to the fact that the store is not online like it was before, expect all images and the store to be running at 100% within 24 hours. Also, “Home”, the virtual world of PS3, should be making its way to users within a couple of weeks from now, this coming from inside sources in Sony. Happy Upgradings!!!

Apple issued v2.0.2 update for Apple TV today, but nobody is quite sure what it does except add a Genre sort button to the movies sections and a Flickr update that lets you see galleries of favorite photos tagged by your friends. Jason O’Grady of The Apple Core said the download took 9 minutes over a cable connection, so it seems like the update is sizable. Anyone else notice anything new? [The Apple Core]

There isn’t (yet) a way to hack Apple TV v2 (aka take 2), but if you were patient enough to wait for the “safe” PatchStick upgrade on your hacked unit, Safari HD is ready to go. Good luck, and take care, after those weeks of waiting for the new update it sure would suck to brick that device.

We figured it was coming, we knew it was coming, and sure enough, it has arrived. All build-up aside, the LCD deal — not to be confused with the already implemented plasma arrangement — between Matsushita (Panasonic) and Hitachi has finally been finalized, and under the terms of the agreement, Matsushita will acquire a 24.9-percent stake in Hitachi Displays, Ltd. by March 31st, pending regulatory approval. It should be noted, however, that Hitachi and Canon (who is technically still a part of this wheelin’ and dealin’ triangle) are still working to hammer out a formal contract, but you can get all up in the fine print by tapping the read link below.

The second generation AppleTV software is now available, so feel free to update your units as soon as you can. In return for you time, you’ll get a whole bunch of new features such as movie rentals, Flickr and .Mac support, and the ability to work the thing without connecting it to a computer.

Update: Looks like plenty of people are having luck with the update, so good on them. No word on how this will affect your hacked Apple TV yet, so you might want to hold off until braver souls sort it all out.
